FINANCES
My aim is to use as little money as possible during my campaign. A democracy, by definition, requires that "the people" rule the country, municipality etc. However, how can it be said that this basic democratic condition has been met when it's only those with money (or friends with money, or enough brass neck to ask for donations, as if there's no more important cause than the advancement their political careers) who can afford to run a campaign that has a chance of being successful? To merely get your face on the side of a bus costs many hundreds of euros, and this is only a fraction of some candidates' total campaign expenses.
Also, splashing out on flyers, badges, posters, balloons and other disposable merchandise is rather dubious from a Green candidate's point of view, even if others in the party seem to forget this come election time.
I refuse to buy my way into Tampere's local council, and I want my campaign to place as little burden on the environment as possible!
I will be listing here any campaign expenses I make, but don't hold your breath for any! I was made exempt from paying Tampereen Vihreät's (Tampere Greens') candidacy charge and this website didn’t cost me anything (except time and energy) to create, in case you are wondering why I haven’t listed any expenses relating to these. I have obviously incurred electricity costs, but I haven't kept a log of the time I've spent at a computer designing my website, completing "voting aid applications" (i.e. vaalikoneet) etc., so it's difficult to estimate these.
Expenses so far:
